Vizag: 10 dead, over 5,000 fall sick after styrene gas leak from LG Polymers chemical plant

VISAKHAPATNAM: As per the reports, at least 10 persons, including two senior citizens and an 8-year-old girl, died and over 5,000 people fell sick after an alleged gas leak from a chemical plant in Vizag on Thursday early morning. As per reports, the leakage happened around 3am at LG Polymers industry at RR Venkatapuram near Naiduthota area close to Gopalapatnam.

"In the wake of the situation in Visakhapatnam, PM Narendra Modi has called for a meeting of the NDMA at 11 AM," the PMO handle tweeted, adding that the Prime Minister had also spoken to Andhra Chief Minister Y Jagan Mohan Reddy and assured all necessary help and support.
At least six people, including a child, died on Thursday morning after toxic gas leaked from a chemical plant of a company in Andhra Pradesh’s Visakhapatnam city, Fire engines, the police and ambulances have reached the area to control the situation and around 200 people have been taken to the hospital.

New Delhi | Jagran News Desk: Seven people were killed after a chemical gas leakage at the LG Polymers industry in RR Venkatapuram village, Visakhapatnam on Thursday. As per news agency IANS report over 1,000 people have fallen ill and at least 800 have been hospitalised after they complained of burning sensation in eyes and breathing difficulties.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that he is 'closely monitoring' the situation while adding that he has spoke to officials of MHA and NDMA regarding the situation in Visakhapatnam. PM Modi has also called for a meeting of the NDMA at 11 am to take stock of the situation
