What does VoWiFi mean?
VoWiFi is a Wi-Fi based VoIP service. Where VoIP consists of the hardware and software.html that enables people to use the Internet as the transmission medium for telephone calls, VoWiFi is the wireless version of this technology which is designed to work on wireless devices such as a laptop or PDAs.
Who is VoWi-Fi valuable for?



  • Operators; and
  • Consumers.



What are the benefits of VoWi-Fi?

Both end users and those in the mobile industry will benefit from Voice over Wi-Fi.
Consumers:
  • Can make calls without the need for a mobile signal (e.g. in a remote location or in a property with thick walls);
  • Benefit from security being based on SIM-based authentication as for VoLTE; and
  • Experience better indoor coverage.
Operators:
  • Unlock revenue opportunities;
  • Leverage existing SIM-based security and authentication as for VoLTE;
